Produced over a year ago, it’s easy to forgive the slightly raw execution of ‘Definition of a Poet’ and appreciate a track with a very solid conceptual foundation. A stuttering percussive underlay lifted from Curtis Mayfield’s ‘Move on up’ is supported by warm basslines, subtle piano chords and a soulful vocal. All this alongside a topsy-turvy Gill-Scott Heron spoken-word sample and Saîle & Ardnt manage to achieve a shuffling groove that is often lacking in the works of more experienced producers.
At only 20 years of age, Berliners Elias Fughe (Saîle) and Max Ardnt have set some very solid foundations indeed.
