DJ Nature’s 2012 Return Of The Savage combined gritty 4X4 textures and a muddied sort of soul to arrive at an arresting, if a touch underwhelming, LP. But Milo Johnson has been putting out utterly unique disco-house sounds ever since he founded the legendary Bristol sound-system collective The Wild Bunch (which spawned Massive Attack, Tricky and more) in the late 80s.
Here DJ Nature offers a very limited edition edit of Typesun’s ‘Last Home’, a charming downbeat jam that opened Futureboogie’s 10 Year Anniversary compilation.
Johnson strips the track right back, removing the jauntier elements and placing prominence on a handclap groove and gently gleaming strings. Sure, his edit is defiantly simple, but it is this threadbare charm that wins out, the loosely arranged bongos tapped over a head-nodding thrum of bass.
Admin provides the flipside ‘Gold Soul’, an equally laid-back summer jam, all twinkling synths, muted yelps and a stark rattle of drums, at once rugged and unobtrusive.
