Midfield General is the moniker of DJ and producer Damian Harris. April sees the release of his
second album ‘General Disarray’, some eight years after his debut. In 2005, after 11 years running Brighton’s Skint Records, he moved to Paris and soon befriended the much sought-after Ed Banger crew. Smart move, that. He’s about as close to being on the label without actually being signed (a little like Kavinsky’s Ed Banger affiliation), chilling as part of their entourage became an everyday pastime. And keeping such good company has reaped many musical benefits: Midfield General’s booming tracks are choppier and dirtier than ever.
His close relationship with the Parisian-electro crew led to a fantastic remix of
Krazy Baldhead’s track Crazy

Motherfuckas. A stand out track for
Krazy baldhead, who’s rather overshadowed by his Ed Banging brethren,
SebastiAn, Justice,
Oizo,
Mehdi, etc. He then became Executive Producer for Justice’s single D.A.N.C.E. So Xavier De
Rosnay (the little chain-smoking guy in Justice who seems to do all the work) returned the favour in helping produce Midfield
General’s forthcoming album.
His first single of the new album is a beasty amalgam of techno and breakbeat , drumming up a throbbing beat throughout alongside an occasional breaks breakdown, and spliced up robotic vocals. This is dirty techno at its best:
Midfield General – Bass Mechanic [pelski highly recommends]

His remix of ‘Crazy Motherfuckas’ was released early last year, and somehow slipped beneath the radar. It’s brutal and filthy, and the throbbing beat follows in much the same mould as his new track ‘Bass Mechanic’ [see above]. Filled with brutally pounding bass. Here you can really hear the chopped-up/splicing style he adopted from the Ed Bangers:

He worked with Norman Cook, of fatboy Slim while working for Skint records who released a diverse collection of great artists including: Lo Fidelity Allstars, X-Press 2, Goose, Kidda, Alloy Mental, Dave Clarke, Freq Nasty, Alter Ego, SuperCollider, Lucky Jim and Tiga. During that time he produced this noxious track in 2002 with Fatboy Slim. Riding completely on an alluring vocal sample that’s ardently repeted. A great, long-forgotten tune:

Disco Sirens -his forthcoming single from the album – was produced by De Rosnay of Justice and mixed by one half of Soulwax, hence this fairly rubbish rip from Annie Mac’s radio show has her dubbing it as a ‘Soulwax vs Justice’ track. But she fails to mention its actually by Midfield General. Nevermind. When I get a good quality copy i’ll be sure to post it here. Though, it sounds like this tune’s gonna cause some real ripples:
D.I.M. has also produced a fervent remix of Disco Sirens:
