A trip to the zoo

At the beginning of the summer we posted the now renowned Catz N Dogz edit of Bibio’s Lovers Carving. Now they’ve got another stripped back rerub that again goes for some simple but effective tinkering. Catz n dogz also have an album due in the next weeks on Mothership called Escape From The Zoo – and, judging by the tracks I’ve heard so far, it may be up there with some of the best albums of the year. It also features a couple of guest appearances from the likes of the ever-quirky French duo dOP and Dirtybird head-honcho Claude Von Stroke. Chock-a-block with sample driven-monsters, low-slung grooves, plus the addition of some new influences (ranging from hip-hop to dubstep), whilst retaining that charmingly off-kilter tech-house stamp they’ve fashioned as their trademark, it’s a must.
For now, grab this delightful edit (for which props go to Kid City). On a side note, is it me or are steel pans all the rage right now? (see recents from Lee Curtiss, Round Table Knights, Jamie XX etc)
This couldn’t be more different from the above. Although sticking with their slightly skewed style, this goes a little more for the banger crate. They handed it out to xlr8r magazine and it’s been doing the rounds ever since. Big, stuttered beats thump down, offering a choppy rhythm that works nicely on the dancefloor:

Catz N Dogz – To Be Cool

Be sure to catch Catz n Dogz at not the next Trouble Vision, but the one after that – sharing the bill with Roska, Doc Daneeka, Wbeeza, George Fitzgerald and plenty more on 26 November.

Another great edit from catz n dogz. Can’t wait for the album.

just feels like their edit of “bombay” takes too long to really get going and it’s not too different from the original. it’s nice but i’m not feeling it.

oh man lesley, you’ve got it all wrong. this album is blowing my mind right now, everything these guys have touched in the past two years has been exceptionally good.

their full length is beyond what i had expected. they are two artists (of the few) that i can truly say have progressed to making music, instead of tracks. real cool post duncan!
