Fixed: Simian Mobile Techno

You’ve heard me wax lyrical about Simian Mobile Disco many a time, so I’ll (try to) spare you the fanboy rambling…

To celebrate the release of Simian Mobile Disco’s US mix CD, Simian Mobile Disco Is Fixed, for Defend Music, they’re giving away a free 320 of their recent ‘Nerve Salad’. The CD is the first in a new compilation series celebrating New York City’s forward thinking FIXED party:

The mix we have done for Fixed is based on how we hope our residency with them in New York will pan out. Fixed has always been a forum for the deeper and odder end of disco and techno, but without forgetting that it’s still a party. We mixed this live in our studio, allowing us to throw some extra effects in there and also a bit of the 808 from time to time.” – Jas (of Simian Mobile Disco)

The mix, out 12 October, represents what you’d expect to hear from SMD at one of their FIXED residency nights: all techno, flecked with jazzy, spacey sonics as well as deep and darker tangents; and, of course, their penchant for acid makes an appearance.

The freebie ‘Nerve Salad’ is the B-side on the superb ‘Aspic / Nerve Salad’ EP; although its at 320kbps, it is an 5 minute edit of the 9 minute original. The galloping techno beats build into a swirling, slightly wonky onslaught of brooding atmospherics:
