I’ve been meaning to post Nicolas Jaar‘s Resident Advisor mix ever since I returned from Turkey – it soundtracked my holiday, and is without a doubt one of the best, most original mixes I’ve heard in years.
The New York-based Chilean Nicolas Jaar is only 19 years of age and yet is one of the most exciting producers to emerge from the states for a very long time. His EP ‘Time For Us‘ dropped on the mighty Wolf + Lamb at the beginning of the year and demonstrated the effectiveness of his straightforwad, boldy slow house grooves. That said, he has no interest in genres as such, blurring the boundaries between house, techno, experimental, IDM and jazz. His recent ‘Mark/Angles‘ EP went on to blow me away with deliciously off-kilter vocals and beautifully arranged pianos, brass and 808 claps. The mood and atmosphere crafted through an intricate attention to detail can be compared to the likes of Henrik Schwarz or even a classical composer.
