Hyperdub head-honcho Kode9 just released his DJ-kicks compilation, an inclusive but fluent picture of where dubstep and garage, or, rather, its various off-shoots (here, most notably UK funky as well as the deeper side of 2-step), are at in 2010. There’s plenty of bass-heavy dancefloor clout to be found here too, as well as his first Kode9 track for a while. It’s a restrained funky number that chimes and rattles away, interspersed by a sparse splutter of analogue bass. Martyn gives it a darker make over, injecting a little more throb and clang amidst the light-footed flutters of percussion:
