Boxes…

So this summer I’m living in a cardboard box. Fortunately it’s not your local alley way box next to the cash point, but it’s definitely a box of sorts, actually it’s several boxes. Moving house is this summer’s grand design. Where alas, I leave my country pastures to be ushered into the swirl of the city, cashing in my wellies for a fresh pair of trainers, while showing you Londoners how you really rock a Barbour. However, amidst the chuckle brother boxing and coxing, I have been subjected to the rather disconcerting fact, that my well tweaked ego fits into a rather small selection of battered boxes from Sainsburys. So feeling the need to resolve this inadequacy, I turn to the ‘Pelski Inbox’ for moral support. To my pleasure, this toy box is more than full, but the best thing about this box is your never sure what’s in it. Here’s what I found…

Breaking their dastardly shackles of nervous fidget and irate dubstep in 2007, the classically trained Oxford duo ‘Cubiq’ found their calling in the deeper sentiments of minimal techno and house music. Their sound recalls the engineering of Piemont, James Holden and Efdemin, as we drift through their stark landscapes of irritated spoken word, and glitchy bass warble. Somebody sign them please.

I was chatting about ‘Deebs’ a few weeks back, and it’s great to hear that both ‘Dollop’ and his new track ‘Sir D’ will be getting signed to a young French label called ‘Get Flavor Records’. ‘Into Orbit’ is as it sounds, a spacey affair, but it sure as hell has no problems to report to Houston. Keep an eye on our future player from Ontario.

Brazilian based ‘DJ Mattiello’ sent me this organ bubbling funk number the other day. Real placid old school vibes generate the glow here, taking us on a transatlantic trip to his hometown and back. He’s a regular spinner back home, so catch him at Toy Lounge, Inferno Club and Milo Garage if you can.

Here we have some flashback frequencies that mark the happier heights of the old school 90’s techno and hardcore scene. It’s no secret that the likes of DJ Funk, CJ Bolland, Knifehandchop, Phuture 303 and Kenny Dope, were swinging on the backseats in this masterclass. These Biarritz based boys are responsible for both the ‘Niterockets’ and ‘L&O’ projects, and have currently been working on a new ghetto-tech project with ‘DJ Skillz’.

Niterockets – Dangerous Summer Love (Beach Version)

Niterockets – The Awakening

L&O – New York 3000

The ‘Fuck House’ family bring us a spacey, progressive Balearic number from their new signing ‘Deporto’. ‘Musiq Electronica’ featured on their Miami Sampler, while ‘Astral Glide’ boasts several highly innovative remixes, most notably by label owner Robin L.E.O aka ‘London Electric Orchestra’. Both tracks come with strong hints of poolside basking, making for some serious summer shoegazeing.

The no shame ‘Top Billin’ boys lay their Benjamins right under Bill Whither’s nose, ripping up his motown classic ‘Who Is He, And What Is He To You?’ As much as I love these funked out bootlegs, ‘Something in my heart and in your eye’, tells me that we all know that these classic hey-day rip offs, might just be passing us by a little too frequently these days.

Sharkslayer – Who Is He?

This one hit the blogs a while back from the Jackmode boys. However Louis’ re-rub seems particularly fitting at the moment, as we while away our troubles in the summer sun. Keep an eye on ‘What! What! Records’ playground tactics, as the ‘Monkey Safari’ boys keep it fresh with their monkey bar beats.
