Bigger Than Jesus – Paint It White
The boys who are ‘Bigger Than Jesus’ bring the graveyard sirens to their soundtrack on this spooked out number. Play this in the early hours and you feel like you’ve walked onto the ‘Evil Dead’ set, except this directors cut brought in Hans Bouffmyhre’s Sleaze Records crew for the soundtrack. Zombies and Techno? I think so. Check out the rest of the Sleaze Records compilations if in need of dark measures, you’ll find the likes Seismal D and Mr. Copy on the graveyard shift.
Here’s a couple of steppers who respect the solid foundations that stormed the turn of the 19th century’s cabaret scene. The self proclaimed Jazz men bring the soul and blues to the candy shop this time, duked out with a dirty electro twist jacking up the tempo. Catch their live performance at Womad Festival this summer in Wiltshire, their ensemble comes with their staple trombone & laptop et al.
Riva Starr – I Was Drunk (Shooting Horses Mix)
Another bit of adulation laid on Riva Starr’s plate, can the man do no wrong? This time the remix comes from one of Nottingham’s former “Uber DJ’s” Shooting Horses. It’s a jiving housey number which flitters around the wonky sensibilities, leaving a few sine waves out for downing on the bar.
Wasted Chicago Youth – Love Thy Enemy
Yet more brooding chaos from Chicago’s underground. The Wasted Chicago Youth have clocked the Beatport best sellers, as well as releasing tracks on Junior Boys Own, and they were streaming off Richie Hawtin’s Twitter not so long ago. Yet they remain to be rather elusive. However if you can find these wasted youths, they may just welcome you into Chicago’s House, but watch out for their killer vocal hooks and side stepping synths.
