I’ve been following Canadian duo Mad Kids for a while now, waiting with baited breath for them to come along and do something like this. You may have heard their remix of Jesse Rose or of TV On The Radio on YCCMPelski a year or two ago. Since then they’ve upped their game, with two original releases. The last release was filled with sprightly tech-house, bearing a resemblance to that all-the-rage supposed Dutch sound doing the rounds right now. Their latest release Trans-Euro Express EP is even better.
Track one ‘I Know’ is something else: sporting a great old school piano house chords, a delicious female vocal hook, cut and looped, but dragged into the 21st century with some fidgetty bounce and deep, dubby bass. Without a doubt, one of my favourite tunes right now. The rest of the tracks have a similarly energetic ethos (‘Flamen‘ and ‘Millhouse‘ remind me of some of Camel’s tribal house releases on Deadfish), each carving out a distinctive sound. This is tech-house with a huge cheeky grin on its face. I don’t usually embed players, but I couldn’t help myself. Go buy this here.

COMING OUT IN MARCH ON “IT_TIZZ” RECORDINGS (Shab Ruffcut & MadKids) by Dandy Kid Records
Mad Kids have provided us with a promo freebie: a stripped-down but jaunty medley of clicks and clacks, and steel drum samples. A nice production:
