This ’92 Chicago House classic from Cajmere – a house legend who founded Cajual Records and then went on to to form the mighty Green Velvet – has been given a lovely reworking by Switzerland’s Mercury. Skippy, conga-infused tribal house beats give dominance to those seminal gospel vocals, snipped and cut. For more free Mercury remixes, hit up his soundcloud:
The Fabric promo crew have given me one of my favourite tracks from Voodeux’s eerie and intelligent debut techno album, Paranormal, to hand out for free (it appeared in the pelski chart a month or two back). Willowy synths meander around the gentle padding of minimal house beats and hand claps. Wielding a catchy hook – strangely reminiscent of the kind of music you hear in a hotel elevator, but don’t let that discourage you. Buy the whole the album here – filled to the brim with ambient IDM and hook-laden techno:
Voodeux – Just A Spoonful [pelski highly recommends]
M.in been smashing the house scene this year, first taking it by storm with jazzy number ‘New Orleans’ and then collaborating with the likes of Bastian Schuster, Patrick Kunkel, Harold Todd and YNK for some of the most exciting releases of the year. And everyone from Radioslave to Basti Grub have enlisted his remix skills. He’s giving out this trumpeting Balkan track for free (it seems this jaunty Balkan and gypsy sound is all the rage right now):

Here we have a cover of Candi Station, remixed by The xx, re-edited by Renaissance Man… The xx remix is sublime, whilst this re-edit reworks things for the dancefloor:
