A couple of days ago I was flattered to receive an email from the brilliant Hostage with his new bass-heavy mix – showcasing all his latest bangers. I first caught onto Hostage two years ago after hearing his incredible remix of Cold War Kids. And Hostage tells me he still bangs that one out when there’s a hipsters skulking in the crowd. Yes it’s a classic for us hipsters: those delicious indie vocals glitched up and drowned in a sea of throbbing, spluttering bass:
Cold War Kids – Hang Me Out To Dry [pelski highly recommends]
Hostage’s latest mix is a heady concoction of booming bass, bouncy womps and dirty rave music. It also gives u sneak peak of three new banging Hostage tunes soon to be released on Nightshifters – a label who recently snapped up the ever-popular AC Slater. Play this mix out loud:
Hostage – Does My Bass Look Big In This? (Hostage’s October mix)
1 Hostage – Shake It
2 Hostage – Hoot
3 Hostage – Snakecharmer
4 The Streets – Let’s Push Things Forward (Hostage
Remix)
5 Hostage – The Slave
6 Hostage – Blackout
7 Hostage – Rooted
8 Hostage – Sorry
9 Hostage – Stab Up
10 Hostage – Roll On (Malente Re-Edit)
11 Altern-8 – Frequency (Hostage Remix)
12 Hostage – Blockhead
13 Hostage – Leathered
14 Hostage – Mash Up The Speaker
15 Acen – Trip II The Moon (Hostage Remix)
Speaking of Hostage classics, here are two of my favourites. One of them’s old, another a little newer. ‘Gluttony’ is all-fizzing, all-crackling bass whacked out at a heart-stopping tempo. A relentless assault on your ears. More recently Hostage remixed OH SNAP!!, the Maryland rapper and DJ who’s lyrics are both infectious and sharp-witted (his tune ‘I’m Too Fat To Be A Hipster’ is comical genius). Hostage injects it with some buzzy momentum and squelchy bass:
