Three weeks ago You Can Call Me Pelski was honoured to receive an email from Top Billin, sending over five tracks from their sideprojects’ new EP ‘Don’t Go In The Water’.
For me, the most downright enjoyable tune of the year has been Top Billin’s gleeful ‘Hoes & House’. The Finnish bmore stormers Top Billin can do no wrong right now. They continue to pump out truck loads of tunes by the month, from electro-tinged crunk to 80′s rock remixes. And now Sir Nenis and Dj Pushups of Top Billin are working on an equally interesting sideproject, under their new ‘Sharkslayer’ monicker.
Sharkslayer isn’t the same bmore, r’n'b-infused creation of Top Billin – in fact an entirely different outing takes them closer to the electro-house side. What they do share with Top Billin is the sheer sense of fun and inventiveness.
Flashlighter is a fizzing and fuzzing monster of a tune. It feels both momentous and epic in it’s deep, brooding beats and driving momentum. A hefty slab of grinding bass:

Following Top Billin’s trend of sampling – or arguably ‘remixing’ – 70s bands (after their much revered crunk version of ‘Money For Nothing’), Sharkslayer lay Foreigner’s classic to filthy waste. Yup it’s ‘Cold As Ice’ given a thumping and crashing electro makeover. Genius glitched and crunchy rework:

The name ‘Sharkslayer’ may ring a bell for die hard Pelski-ites out there, as I posted their superb bassline remix of diva-house banger ‘What I Need’, in my behemoth Drop The Lime post.

Alongside ‘Fleshlighter’ and ‘As Cold As Ice’, Sharkslayer’s debut EP also contains these bassy bangers, heavy on the warping bass and looped vocal samples. And that King Kaleb remix is huge:

Sharkslayer tell me they have plenty of remix material in the pipeline. Be excited, be very excited.
