The foundations of Antartek Records were constructed upon sound principle. Their manifesto displays a down to earth mentality, and I sincerely hope they succeed in fulfilling it. They have proposed the idea of an all seeing ‘global cultural exchange using new technologies’. A very logical solution which I can’t help but briefly rant about…
Rant aside, and back to Antartek Records, I would like to tell you why I’m excited about this tropical collective. Their head honcho, Erasmo Parra, a.k.a ‘The Green Pepper Boy’ is always on the outlook for the new van garde, having already mustered an inspired folly of varied artists, whether they be visual, audible or readable. Currently based in Amsterdam, these guys are not the usual batch of sample based bandits cutting up the floors, due to many of them sampling and playing authentic instruments from their various South American homelands. You can really hear the charm of the southern hemisphere’s mythical spirit here, where hometown fandangos and dreamy fiestas guide us through the carnival, with a touch of UK bass thrown in for good measure.
Here is a little taster from their recent promo pack. I can promise more tunes to follow, plus some in detail chat about who’s who on the ice cold equator of Antartek Records. Be sure to check out the Matanza teaser, it looks like we might be doing something with the boys in the near future.
