A little Fake Blood never hurt anyone…

Fake Blood is, apparently, Boy 8-Bit. They are one. This conspiracy theory was promptly disaffirmed by Fake Blood on his Myspace – most probably for self-image reasons rather than anything else (have you seen Boy 8-Bit? He looks like a cross between a Metallica fan and a die-hard Warhammer collector).

So Boy 8-bit isn’t Fake Blood. Such conspiracy theories have been steadily accumulating for many years now: there’s a theory that the KLF invented Pete Doherty as a massive arty joke; testing the masses to see if they can really love an artist solely for the cool druggy image (this is ridiculous, of course – Pete is a flawed genius). Then there’s the theories that Daft Punk don’t even turn up to their giant pyramid sets; that, in fact, underneath those flashing helmets, are just two techkies employed by Daft Punk to bounce their heads a bit and press the play button on an ipod…while the real Daft Punk are merely at home browsing You Can Call Me Pelski.com…

And I have my own theory brewing – focusing on the suspicious similarity in looks between the duo behind Crookers and The Bloody Beetroots…But the point is Fake Blood and Boy 8-Bit are not the same; they are just two genius artists ripping up the electro scene right now with some truly banging remixes.

Everything Fake Blood touches turns to gold, solid gold. Every remix is ace. Yes, he seems to use that same trademark sound of his over and over – a crunchy, bouncy, bassy noise and often a reverberating, buzzy sound. But it’s always killer. He turns every track into a big-boom dancefloor beast. One of Fake Blood’s most recent remixes is of Dans Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip – the guy we thought was only gonna be a one-hit wonder with that wonderfully satirical tune Thou Shalt Always Kill. But here’s a new tune from him and a brilliant remix that infuses Fake Blood’s now trademark sound. Sweet as a nut:

Dans Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip – Look For The Woman (Fake Blood Remix) [pelski highly recommends]

The original UNKLE track is a fairly tedious and lifeless affair. Fake Blood adds that deep bouncing bass and loops the vocals to great effect, and provides it a with new life of its own:

UNKLE – Restless (Fake Blood Remix)
[pelski highly recommends]

His remix of Armand Van Helden’s uber-retro, 80s revival of a track ‘I Want Your Soul’ is a slight departure from Fake Blood’s trademark sound, and relies heavily on glitchy, choppy editing that works perfectly:

Armand Van Helden – I Want Your Soul (Fake Blood Remix)

His remix of Beeper has more glitched snippets too, but adds that buzzy bass again, and makes for the best remix yet of this massive tune:

Sinden & Count of Monte Cristal – Beeper (Fake Blood Remix) [pelski highly recommends]

Fake Blood also laid his beautiful little hands on Black Ghost’s excellent indie-electro stormer Any Way I Choose To Give It. Boy 8-Bit still snags the prize for best remix, but this comes in a close second, and saw alot of attention from the likes of Erol Alkan and Annie Mac last year:

Black Ghosts – Any Way You Choose To Give It (Fake Blood Remix)
[pelski highly recommends]

Bonde De Role’s Gasolina, of the Bail Funk mould, here is injected with a crunchy, driving momentum and is, again, the standout remix among many:

Bonde De Role – Gasolina (Fake Blood Remix) [pelski highly recommends]

Fake Blood’s very latest, and as of yet unreleased, is a remix of South Rakkas Crew new single. This is a weak 96kbps myspace rip, but shows Fake Blood’s golden touch – once again – is winner. It’s filled with more booming bass and echoing reverberation:

South Rakkas Crew – Get Mad Again (Fake Blood Remix) [myspace rip]

Last but not least, Fake Blood’s upcoming release Mars is ace. It will be released alongside ‘Fake Blood Theme Tune’, so keep checking Beatport for this one …. ‘cos its gonna be big:

I actually like the Black Ghosts remix the best, especially the break ended by the explosion/cowbell thing

Mate, as much as I love you and your blog you really need to stop slating Restless by UNKLE. It’s a fucking amazing track and is far superior to any remix. Not only that but now you’re hating on Metallica. Fuck Pete Doherty. Try some of the more exciting stuff.

Alright ‘restless’ is a pretty good tune, just had another listen to the orignal. Though i do find the rest of UNKLE’s stuff pretty bland (and thats prob why i remember it to be so). Anyway, I just like to be cynical – it adds a little humour – i dont want my blog to be bland like so many others, blogging should be about opinions not populist bullshit. Metallica’s fine too – but the black goth hair that goes down to ur ankles isn’t – that was my point. Take it easy man it was just a joke. And Pete Doherty’s early stuff is exciting…back in the early 2000s The Libertines kick-started a revolution & encouraged a hundred copy-cats that may make it sound unexciting now in comparison, but back then it was really something new.

Oh and the majority of UNKLE’s stuff may be melodic, experimental and interesting, but exciting…?

    I’m the anonymous from before.
I’m sorry man. I didn’t mean to come accross so hostile. I must admit that I love a bit of cynicism as it does put the blog above others in terms of levels of interest.
As far as the whole Metallica thing goes I do also find Boy 8-Bit’s look absolutely hilarious. But I reckon that’s what he’s aiming for (and yeah the Warhammer comment did make me piss myself). Keep up the good work, sorry for the negative vibe. x

    Hey,

Maybe you should become my stylist?

I’m proud of my roots! At the VERY LEAST I look like a +12 Stormlord warrior from the lands of Alganon, 4 days travel due north (as the dragon flies) of the emerald city.

Are you saying thats a BAD look?

Anyway, I am not Fake Blood. Think about it, would I seriously have time to do all those remixes. Would I go out of my way to do 2 remixes of the same track? Come on…

The same with Crookers / Bloody Beetroots thing. Thats ludicrous!! People just wouldnt have the time or the energy to do it. Touring, remixing and working on new material is totally draining.

Still, glad you like the music though, it means a lot. But I still going to cast a curse on you for what you said. When I find the braclet of Salagor to boost my spell points of course.

  • Anonymous

Mate The Bloody Beetroots arn’t Crookers. I thought the same, but the Beetroots are Bob Rifo and Tommy Tea. And here’s a photo of Bobble rifo with Phra (from Crookers)

These are the two that get mixed up as they are similar. I even have a photo on my phone of one of the Beets (Bob) and it looks like Phra.

Okay, since no one seems to want to claim to be Fake Blood, I guess I’ll do it. Seems simple enough. All I have to do is go around telling people I’m not Fake Blood.

    Which I am not.

    So far so good…

  • Krankenhause

@ Chase and Foreman: It’s been known for months now that he is infact Theo Keating a.k.a. DJ Touché from the Wiseguys.
