An Interview with Zombie Disco Squad (+ exclusive Pelski Mixtape)

These boys need little introduction to those who follow the movements in world house music. Much to our pleasure, our favourite disco zombies have taken the time out to teach us how to operate around house music in a safe and sensual manner, having kindly provided us with an all out exclusive mix for the Pelski blog. So be sure to check out their ‘Safe Sex Mix’ on the link, it’s left both Pelski and I sexually frustrated and sickness in health, providing an ideal warm up boogie before you breach the gates of Counter Culture this Saturday on the 18th of December.

I caught up with one half of the duo Nat Self earlier this week, where we talked feng shui, 5 years of Made To Play, Curb Your Enthusiasm and Resolutions…

So you play a lot of house music. How does this affect your feng shui when your at home in your actual house?

Very well thanks….our messiness is a direct representation of our creative genius…hahaha.

The recent ’5 Years of Made To Play’ compilation quite literally signifies 5 years of playing house music and making memories. Could you tell us about a particularly memorable musical memory from this 5 year stint?

The first show at panorama bar was exceptional. The crowd there are very unforgiving, so when you get it right it’s the best feeling in the world. We also recently came back from Japan/Asia for the second time, the clubs, crowds and cities are so intense….its like another world. We had some great memories and even hooked up with a Japanese designer and made a ltd ed ZDS tshirt.

Name one of your favourite tunes at the moment…

Now it’s time to cast your mind back to this November. You may remember that we both played at one of Manchester’s infamous Drop the Mustard nights together. Having really enjoyed warming up for you guys on my new Serato, I dropped behind the mixer to unplug my little black box. At this point I remember becoming massively entangled with all the protruding wires attached to my serato, which left me looking rather uncool and in a down right kerfuffle! I have subsequently sold my Serato since then, due to the constant spaghetti junction confusion of plugging and unplugging on the fly. How often do you deal with gently incompetent warm up DJ’s like myself? And should we just leave our laptops at home and make life easier for ourselves?

Ha! That was no biggie at Drop the Mustard. It’s no big thing if people need to plug in/ unplug serrato – as long as they aren’t dicks about it. There is nothing worse than a warm up Dj that thinks he is tiesto- leave the ego at home fellas, we do. Now where is our bowl of green m & m’s. For Fucks sake… One thing just one thing…

MPC Sampler vs. Ni Maschine. Who wins?

NI Maschine, the live possibilities and sound libraries on that thing are really amazing – we are also about to get given some so we love NI. Mpcs are kinda cool too doh, they are the old school champs.

Best club in the world right now?

Panorama. Although Robert Johnson is meant to be dope and Charles Bronson was cool too.

What’s your favourite ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ episode?

The one where Larry compliments the parents on their child’s big cock.

ZDS is part of the Berlin based Jackmode Agency. Which newcomers are set to kill it on your roster this coming year?

Tricky question. Jet project are cool as are Monkey Safari, you better keep your eyes peeled on all of us…we are taking over!

Have you any resolutions in mind for the coming new year that is 2011?

Less drinking, more vitamins, less burgers, more sleep.

Thanks Nat. We’re looking forward to this Saturday.

For those of you who still don’t have tickets…get em here!
