Manchester looks so much nicer when it’s caked in sunlight. Today was such a day, and despite the fact I’ve lost my car keys, got a parking ticket and tripped over at the bus stop, I’m in no worser mood. However a lot of my time of late, has been spent observing this fine glow from within the safety of the library, with a breeze-block of a book staring right up at me. It’s got to the point where I think I’m so pale, that I’m reflecting the sunlight when I do catch a glimpse of the outdoors, and I would appreciate it if people would stop trying to blind me with their healthy holiday glows. However, whilst procrastinating in the library, I’ve had many an hour to check the inbox and as always I’ve found a few gems.
Been meaning to post this for a while, as true disco grooves are delivered from ‘Burns’ once again. Never been a huge fan of many modern disco cuts, however the Bangalter jitters and tight string work, really draw out the heartache on the melody here. Check out the rest of his fourth e.p ‘So Many Nights’ on 2112 Records.
The xx – Crystalized (The Neon Lights Remix)
Many arising stars and newcomers are gracing Gottwood Festival this year, where one of the spectacle’s showcase are likely to be ‘The Neon Lights’. They’ve sent us over a gently tweaked edit of ‘Crystalize’, maintaing the down step temperament of the original, with a disco twitch here and there.
We have another Canadian invasion on the player…it seems like the people of Ontario are intent on leaving a trail of bouncy house music across the blogosphere, as our man ‘Milt Mortez’ drops his new release at Discobelle. Deebs leads us on a downward spiral of gyrations, with a grated tribal groove on the beat.
Luke’s Anger – High Volume (Luke’s Anger’s ‘Theremin from Hell’ remix)
Every now and then I stumble upon a wobble bass-line that can’t be ignored. Luke’s banger takes the high end snippets of bass music, strains them through Techno, which are then poured into a mix of low end minimalist discipline. Catch Luke’s Anger playing at Glade this year on the BLOC: Vapor Stage, where he’ll be playing alongside alongside Jeff Mills and Green Velvet.
Al Green – Simply beautiful (George Lenton edit)
Honey flavoured vocals from an all time great, alongside a washed out drum pad, makes for a summer sit down in the park. George Lenton’s latest e.p embossed with a content koala bear, seems symbolic of the lazy sunken glaze that he lends to production. Must be listened to in a bucolic setting with little distraction.
