Intothefray’s other nights – that include Smack & Tickle, Game Over and more recently the succesfull Trouble Vision debut – have garnered a solid reputation as music events that consistently show host to innovative, open-minded musicians; the up-and-comers; the blog-friendly forward-thinkers… So it’s unsuprising that both Detboi and Joe And Will Ask? have graced the pelski pages before.
Drums of Death recently burst on to the scene, followed by a rapid ascent, recently appearing in mixmag and DJ mag respectively. Drums of Death is the ghostly, skeletal incarnation of Colin Bailey – a voodoo-obsessed Scottsman with a penchant for halloween make-up and dinner jackets. Spooky. His dark melodies – blending grime, garage, dubstep, old school house and techno – most resemble YoucancallmePelski favourite Drop The Lime. Its a progressive, experimental style. And his recent remix of Late Of The PIer’s indie-electro tune provides a fresh take on the much remixed band ( – think tapedeck remix of Klaxons. Yup. Fun 4X4 sillyness). His lively and innovative laptop set (in Trouble Vision’s Room 1) ought not be missed. All warping bass and 2-step rhythms:

Detboi’s an irish producer and DJ who’s banging style’s most similar to the Jamaican genre of dancehall (or sometimes ‘bashment’) – the dancefloor-friendly cousin to reggae, but Detboi incorporates all sorts: from clattering b-more drums to all-womping garage noise. Many use dancehall as a dirty word – a genre associated with cheesy tropical beats. Whatever your preconceptions of dancehall may be, don’t bracket Detboi’s inventive brand among them. Bass-heavy and booming, detboi should be a joy. A couple of months ago Detboi kindly sent Pelski a number of his tunes. Find them here:
Joe And Will Ask? will be gracing the decks in Room 1, with their beefy big-room boomers. Their

dirty grinding electro-tech is surely crafted with only the dancefloor in mind, with their jump-up-and-down techno stompers and electro-house bangers. This London duo have been working the London circuit – now in hot demand – since their recent arrival on the scene. Support from Erol and Streetlife DJ’s can’t have done any harm either.
‘Surge’ is a dirty driving banger, with a thumping beat and growling synths – killer on the dancefloor. ‘Monster’ runs in a similar pounding vein; but more distorted electro and less throbbing bass. Mystery Jets’ ‘Half In Love With Elizabeth’ has been remixed by everyone from minimal lad Popof to Fidget don Foamo. Now Joe And Will Ask? have added this bassey, bleepy addition to the collection:
Joe And Will Ask? – Surge [pelski highly recommends]
Joe And Will Ask? – Monster
Mystery Jets – Half In Love With Elizabeth (Joe And Will Ask? Remix)
