Following his chart-topping ‘Need U’, Duke Dumont continues his ascent to superstardom and a decidedly mainstream sound. This time he aims for the slick Disclosure-esque r’n’b-come-house genre. Cue some achingly drippy wailing from London-based vocalist MNEK, with some sharp percussion and a bobbing bassline. ‘Need U’, for all its chart-seducing ways, certainly had more weight to it. Those longing for Dumont’s heady Turbo Records days would probably agree that calling ‘Hold On’ limp would be putting it lightly.
