Eddie C’s first album Parts Unknown on Endless Flight was a quaint disco outing full of slo-mo gems and 70’s throwbacks; an overtly warm and soulful style that falls somewhere between Mark E, The Revenge and, at least on this release, Theo Parrish.
But the Canadian harbours his own distinct, slightly cosy charm and that shines through on the first single from his fantastic second album Country City Country, as he puts a jingling Brazilian piano to work with a rattle of tribal beats. It’s a twitchy, loopy hip-shaker.
The less convivial ‘It Goes Free’ is somewhat of a departure from his trademark quaintness, as it hammers away with unforgiving, rugged percussion atop a thumping bass drum. A shadier, heads-down cut best suited for darkened late-night floors.
Two bold and interesting tracks. Stay posted for the full album review.
