The Boogaloo Crew are still turning heads on all side of the bass genre. I caught their set at Gottwood, that built from deep and brooding 2-step to jumpy and party-starting grime and bass. They’ve also been receiving rave reviews for their other alias Dark Sky from the likes of Resident Advisor and DJ mag; if you haven’t already picked up Something To Lose, the title track of which is a catchy slice of throwback 90s rave, be sure to head here. Their latest, Frames, is another memorable EP, flexing a variety of sounds and full of nagging hooks and animated bass. The highlight of the four track EP might well be the rattle and fuzz of ‘Fly’, but decide for yourself here.
It’s good to see they haven’t neglected The Boogaloo Crew, and there’s plenty of new and older Boog productions in their Radio 1 mix. Most of all, I want my mits on that first track, where UK funky meets a jazzy, carnival vibe:
