‘Child’, last year’s big hit for Aus, was a fun and buoyant dancefloor bomb erring on the poppier side of house music. ‘Thinking Of You’ arrives on Scuba’s Hotflush as the slightly cooler, leather jacket-clad older brother, less foolhardy and a little more complex.
Whilst it shares ‘Child’’s use of a yearning vocal sample, ‘Thinking Of You’ is aimed at the darker realms of the dancefloor, its menacing analogue bump of bass is cuffed by slightly off-beat percussive hits.
FitzGerald is yet to carve out a style he can truly call his own, but this release introduces a welcome refinement and subtlety to his evolving sound.
