Glitch and Hop with ‘R/D’

It all started way out west in subterranean L.A.
Some kids had caught on to the fact that the 90′s had become a milestone for experimentalist left field electronica, so they began to host an array of underground electro parties to honour their post acid veterans. This was to be the incarnation of the Experimental Liquor Museum, a dance collective that celebrated the off kilter equilibrium of abstract electronica with a slight penchant for neon. It just so happens that one of the leading forerunners of the group was R/D. He quickly became known for his dab cuts on the 1′s n 2′s, when at E.L.M’s peak he was supporting IDM legends Amon Tobin, Squarepusher, Prefuse 73 and Nightmares On Wax.

Over the last decade, R/D has been honing his skills as a Sound Designer, Veteran Music Producer and label owner (The Designed Disorder). Known for his trade mark glitchy electro, R/D has leant towards a broken down futuristic electro-crunk of late, with a bump and grind philosophy, that lets us trip over his slow paced hip hop syncopation. Recent shows have seen him support the Glitch Mob, Flying lotus and Coco Rosie, and his new course doesn’t seem to be slowing pace.

These lean and bounce and bounce re-rubs are taken from R/D’s latest e.p ‘Cricket’. I didn’t realise they played cricket in L.A, however these beats knocked me for six.

R/D – Cricket (R/D’s Emo Mash-Up Remix)

R/D – Space Radio (Deru Remix)

R/D – Cricket (MartyParty Remix)

R/D – Popping Star (Biclops Remix)

Check R/D’s remix of Fever Ray that I mentioned in the last post. It’s a truly majestic whirl of floaty synth lines and crisp harmonies. Plus, you can download R/D’s Cricket e.p in full for the minimal amount of 3 dollars here.

DOPE. Delighted to see RD getting a proper write up in the UK. His live sets simply kill it.

In Los Angeles the ELM collective is the rare music based community that gathered around a sound and continues a decade later to remain connected despite our locations, creating marraiges and families, a bond still sealed with a quite acknowledgement and joy when we gather. Hope you can feel that in the music.
