Kompakt co-founder Micheal Mayer weaves an intricate and mesmerising remix out of Dusseldorf-based pianist Hauschka’s ‘Radar’. The original track is taken from Salon des Amateurs, an experimental album on which the composer forged house music from live instruments, primarily by way of a piano set up with a variety of household items including bottle caps, paper clip and marbles (you can watch him arrange his piano in these enthralling clips here).
Mayer renders the track club-friendly, removing the brass and inserting a thrumming bassline. In doing so the original is transformed into an urgent, thrusting piece of techno, but with all of Hauschka’s heart-warming piano chimes left to dart flightily across the surface.
This really is a fantastic remix to be handed out for free.
