I Bit the Big Apple and Liberty Slapped Me…

So she left a nasty sting on my cheek, but it’s the kind of nasty you go back for; and like everyone else I’m just going to have to wait in line, as I’m not the only “Englishman in New York” cueing up for more. But one thing that doesn’t cost if your looking in the right places is that next dose of 30hz and below, and if you get lucky you just might find yourself somewhere that has the drops which hit the desired spot. Last Friday I found myself in Central Park at the truly spectacular ‘Dark Disco in the Park’, where New York’s very own Heavy Bass Weight Champion Drop the Lime, tore apart the crowd with his wonky bass fusion and soulful vocal hooks. Shortly afterwards the Berlin overlord of party techno Boys Noize, unfolded a parcel of gift-wrapped gritty disco-teched melodies upon a sweaty crowd of bouncing bystanders.

Frankie Knuckles – You Love (Dusty Kid Makes Love Tender)

Danny Tenaglia – Dibiza (Solee Mix)

James Brown – There Was A Time (Kenny Dope Mix)

So I’m sitting here on my rooftop thinking it over, with my “I ♥ NY” coffee mug in one hand (cringe), and the Empire State Building on the right. And I’m thinking it’s safe to say that this city has eaten me for dinner, grilled my expectations on the side, and left me crispy and well done. But I’m not complaining, I fed the beast willingly and got served good. So here’s my ode to New York, whereby I present to you a just a snippet of their finest national heritage and talent today. This list could be endless and I’m sure I will miss out many greats, but these guys are keeping “The City That Never Sleeps”…well, from sleeping.

Dre Skull – I Want You (AC Slater Mix)

Holy Ghost – Hold Tight

The Juan Maclean – Happy House

Enjoy the beats and I promise I’ll do some bigger posts when I’m back on home territory.

Wow, you really shouldn’t have tried if that’s all you got. For a blog that’s posted so many good tracks, this should have so much better NY music.
