Loki Recordings – Electronica on point

Jamie Boyer, AKA Russian Linesman, originally set up Loki Recordings at the end
of last year, to provide a means to release a conceptual album inspired by his
honeymoon in Iceland. Having already had successful releases on established
labels such as Manual Music and Archipel, Russian Linesman wanted to take
things to the next level by providing himself with a platform to have full control
of his own work, from artwork to remixes. Once the word was out he was
inundated with over 200 demos and he decided to use the label as a means
to distribute a certain species of Electronica that other labels simply weren’t
handling. Giving artists free reign over their creations has allowed Loki to find a
niche and gain something of a cult following.

Loki 003 , is (unsurprisingly) the third release by the Nottingham based label,
and comes from the disgustingly talented Lanny May. Having proved himself as
being made from the Loki fabric Lanny provides some of his most scintillating
electronica to date. The release also contains two delightful remixes of chunky
cheap song from the equally genius Applescal and Jesse Somfay. Very nice.
Thankyou.

Loki’s latest and 4th release, (the aptly named Loki 004), is a mini album by Mig
Dfoe which takes the listener on an electronic space walk full of deep melodic
synths, smile-inducing samples and complex percussion structures. What’s
coming next on Loki remains to be seen (Loki 005 one would imagine), but
whether it’s Russian Linesman’s long awaited honeymoon album or another Loki
selection from the electronic gene pool doesn’t really matter, we can be sure our
eardrums will be happy.

You can catch Russian Linesman spinning at the next instalment of Spanked.
Keep your eyes peeled for more on that one.
