Makin’ straight A’s

Amsterdam’s Homework have turned away from the overcooked electro-filth sound, and aligned themselves more closely to to the kooky, minimal house of new hipster royalty Deadfish and Sound Pellegrino. If that sounds cynical to you, don’t fear: judging by their latest edits and an incoming release, they’ve honed a fun, distinct and yet varied sound.

These two simple edits work rather well too. Last year’s classic from Kid Kaio and Lucky Charmes gets smoothed out with a more consistent kick, but retaining the cheeky bounce of the original.

Kid Kaio & Lucky Charmes – This Sound Is (Homework Sound Bootcut) [pelski highly recommends]

They’ve also polished up Douster’s ‘King of Africa’ (the original of which I mentioned in my 2009 round-up). Last year Douster well and truly hacked up your favourite soundtrack, The Lion King, with all the audacity and subtlety of a colonial pillager, he chops it into a bouncy house tune, with a steel drum kick hammering away between the sliced and diced Disney sample. The ridiculousness of the whole thing is cleaned up by Homework who cut straight to the chase by editing out the long Lion King intro and shortening the sample snippet. Hear you have an edit that’s all ready and packaged to play out on the dancefloor… if you dare.

Douster – King Of Africa (Homework Edit)

‘I Got Two’ is a cut-up, elevated disco number: fragments of whirring synths sit behind snappy snares. Disco, but with real kick (thanks goes to Voules Random for this one):

I would NEVER EVER play that shit. And seriously, “King of Africa”? So tasteless.

You could play it at a party, as a bit of fun, plus this edit makes it much better. But I know what u mean, pretty silly…
