‘Outside Amour’ is the first single from Man Tear, the new project from Studio Barnhus founders Axel Boman and Petter Nordkvist. Far removed from the two Swedes’ usual deep house offerings, Outside Amore is as an unexpected slice of camp, cosmic disco pop, with more than a whiff of DFA labelmates Hercules & Love Affair.
The nine-minute single is restrained and quirky in equal measures, plus a healthy dose of that by now familiar Nordic disco sound associated with the likes of Todd Terje, Lindstrom and Prins Thomas. A gently bobbing bass lines pushes the track forward as dancing harps and jangling tamborines dip in and out of earshot. But it’s the gloriously off-kilter vocal – a wistful, romantic croon – from regular Boman collaborator J. Jonason that makes this single so delectable.
