Midland @ Pelski Presents Room 2, Counter Culture, 6th November

As I’m sure you know by now, we’re hosting room 2 of the Jackmode Counter Culture night under London Bridge. Not only do we have Pelski favourites Round Table Knights headlining, but also the up-and-comer on everyone’s lips, Midland: a man whose distinct and inventive productions have been winning over critics and clubbers alike. His collaboration with Ramadanman, a captivating excursion into a shimmering marriage of deep house and garage, was no one-off. It was shortly followed by his recent ‘Play The Game’ EP, an equally difficult release to pigeon hole: part future soul; part heads-down tech; part deep house – and all essential. He’s also put his hands to a couple of remixes, recently turning out the pick on the Zarif ‘Box Of Secrets’ remix bundle.

Now Midland’s giving away this full quality re-edit of Caribou’s ‘Sun’. Of all the ‘Sun’ rerubs (we recently posted Bowski’s techno rendition), this takes the biscuit. Some big clunky kicks shuffle away beneath that familiar synth melody, retaining the original’s ethereal essence, but adding some quirky charm of its own. Works very nicely on the dancefloor too:
