That bumpy minimal house sound has been spreading far and wide over the last few years. Deadfish; Sound Pellegrino; Exploited; What! What! Records… all quirky offspring of the mighty Made To Play and Dirtybird imprints, the dons of fun, sample-based house…
First up, Exploited head-honcho Shir Khan has sent over a remix by duo of the moment, Yolanda Be Cool, who’ve featured on Pelski in the past. Their recent, and frankly slightly annoying, ‘We No Speak Americano’, has plagued the radio and Ministry of Sound comps. For me, however, their earlier ‘
Afro Nuts‘ is their standout track, but it’s good to see them getting some well deserved attention. Here they remix Brazilian producer Chernobyl’s tango-influenced sounds – a mix of house and cumbia that he calls ‘Le Cheval’:

Sound Pellegrino are giving away another whole brand new EP for free here. The pick of the bunch comes from Gucci Vump (Brodinski and Guillaume from The Shoes), who provide another eerie, enchanting house track. This one comes on like a Willy Wonka soundtrack put through the Sound Pellegrino beat machine. Flutes and a sweetly soft female songstress whistle along to a clean, satisfying kick:
Jesse Rose’s bouncy remix of Para One’s ‘Toadstool’ has been a great summer houser, but LOL
boys take a decent stab too, coming up with a laid-back, equally idiosyncratic rework:
I’ve waited with baited breath for this dOp remix of one of my favourite tracks of 2009, Renaissance Man’s ‘What Is Guru’. It is unfortunately a huge disappointment, and Riva Starr’s remix still comes out trumps. Yes, dOp add a little soul but for the most part it’s a monotonous and repetitive take on an wonderfully inventive track from the eccentric Parisian outfit:
Worthy and Yankee Zulu’s brand of house music revolves around beefy tribal beats, bound to get you bouncing. They’ve collaborated on a few tracks together, each big tech-house stompers: ‘BS Connection’, ‘Bad Side’ and ‘Concumbia’. Now they’ve kindly thrown a new edit to us:
ZDS throw out this freebie filled with clanking drums, muffled bass and their trademark tropical rhythms:
Eldoko, organiser of the recent Gottwood festival, just saw his EP released on
What What! Records with his
Woodworm Blues EP. Monkey Safari have rejigged the trumpet-sampler into a chuggy affair enforced with cogent smack of snares. Monkey Safari will sample anything – whether it’s old bluegrass; flutes; trumpets; or dusty folk vocals – and make it as fun and chunky as possible. They’re also kind enough to put together plenty of free bootlegs for us:
Most of the artists I’m posting here belong to our favourite agency
Jackmode (home to Jet Project – who we have playing this weekend at Big Chill House
here – as well as Round Table Knights, Idiotproof, Renaissance Man, ZDS, Solo, Justin Martin, etc). A new addition to their roster is Pol_On, whose deliciously deep, stripped-back remix of Andreas Saag’s ‘People Say’ caught my attention. Definitely one’s to watch, here’s a beefy house bootleg they sent through:
Another recent addition is J Philip, who I’m sure we’ll be hearing alot more of shortly. Check out her superb mix for URB
