SMD Can Dance

The Italo-dance of DJ Hell’s latest ‘U Can Dance’ feautures Bryan Ferry on the vocals. The two met in 2006 when DJ Hell visited Ferry’s West London Studio. The original is interesting – however the remix package is doubly as captivating.

I have always fervently insisted on the ever underrated and under-appreciated sophistications of Simian Mobile Disco. They’re often unfairly lumped with the shallow, posey stylings of the Kitsune bunch and the associated Parisian electro scenesters. SMD are far from this – and always have been – judging by both albums and their brilliant DJ sets (that drawn on everything from acid, detroit and forgotten house gems).

Their remix bats even Carl Craig’s two versions out of the park, with it’s heavy plodding bass pads and the techno progression into an FX-laden medley of sub-aquatic blips and bops. Play it loud and wait for the track to build to its climatic downpour of boulder-sized sonic raindrops. An accomplished remix that deserves repeat listening to truly appreciate:
