The Right Now – Call Girl EP

call girl main

A slinky r’n’b offering from Chicago-based band The Right Now. The original cut is a sublime live disco recording that goes full whack: lush keys, guitar lines, zesty horns and a sugar-sweet female vocal. So uncanny is the nostalgia of the recording that it could happily pass for an unearthed gem straight out of an obscure crate of 70’s disco.

It’s a remix package with no real weak links: Disco Deviance stalwart Dicky Trisco goes deep and down-tempo and Brooklyn house-head JKriv turns in a chunky old school version in keeping with his NY hometown.

But it’s Hot Toddy, sometimes guitarist of disco outfit Crazy P, who comes up trumps with his sparkling anthemic take, balancing just the right amount of sexy twinkle and dancefloor groove. At odds with the original’s straight-laced soul approach, Toddy loops and snips the vocal into a catchy refrain – ‘ohh baby’.

Another blinding release from Jkriv’s Deep & Disco imprint.
