Leeds-based newcomers Transmission Collective drop a solid debut on their own imprint Transmission Audio Recordings. ‘Lex’ is the money shot, a house track revelling in all those 90’s UK garage staples. Big rolling subs and snappy snares underpin a typically swoonsome, pitched-down r’n’b vocal. It’s nothing new, but it’s as good a garage/house hybrid as any – and undeniably soulful.
The next one is a little more introverted, if not hugely memorable, with its submerged r’n’b vocals smudged across a downbeat shuffle. The final track is the most overtly 4×4, brandishing a clanging snare and fragmented vocal refrain.
A promising debut from the up-and-coming trio that manages to balance the deeper shades of house with the skippy thwack of garage.
