yet more Jesse Rose adulation

YCCMPelski favourite Jesse Rose has been turning house music on its head since 1997, and lately he’s really hit big: 2007 saw him scoop up best British DJ award at DJmag’s Best of British awards, he now holds a residency at his monthly Made to Play night at Berlin’s Panorama Bar and reportedly tours the world for fifty-two weeks of the year. And I’m sure regulars have heard enough of me waxing lyrical about his album. Mr Rose hasn’t half been around the block either (in a strictly musical sense)- recording for ‘Classic’, ‘Get Physical’, ‘JBO‘, ‘Simple’; as well as his own ‘Made To Play’ and ‘Dubsided‘ labels.

He’s experimented with Chicago house and Detroit techno, helped forge ‘fidget’ (I’ve gone back to referring to fidget in inverted commas because its simply not cool anymore… apparently) and drawn on everything from jazz to 80s funk. Often sticking to minimal progressions and simple effects, Jesse Rose still manages to craft tunes that are immensely fun.

Towards the end of 2007 Underworld commissioned Jesse and Audiojack to remix ‘Holding The Moth’ from the new album. The single then wasn’t released as a single, so that the two remixes were hidden away. A couple of months the two remixes were granted their own official release. Pick up Audiojack’s mix here. Oscillating punches of fuzzy bass waver and wobble along to Underworld’s looped vocals in Rose’s rejigg. Breezy, bouncy stuff:

An older one here that’s also undergone the Jesse Rose treatment. The original is a bygone gem by Rekid (AKA Radioslave) – a tribute to Chicago house, utilizing an irresistible folk vocal sample, not all that dissimilar to Jesse’s own ‘Well Now’. Simple thudding beats, hi-hat claps, guitar samples and a whistling melody fit around the gruntled vocal snippets. (For more of this download the superb 2007 Rekids One Compilation):

i heart jesse. he’s consistant. lands in the ‘fidget’ label without sounding like a giant fad (fag?). him and switch seem just to do no wrong.

Fidget House is still cool, so is electro, so are those great old Bloody Beetroots tracks that it seems everyone’s forgotten about. Why does the blog crowd suffer from the worst case of ADD I’ve ever seen?

    DJ kris Taylor Bio

Kris Taylor has been a fanatic of house music since his mid teens, which has then seen his fascination grow to what it is today.

He started as a basic clubber, going to all the London clubs, listening to lots of different house music, and lots of different dj’s, Sacha, John Digweed, Frankie knuckles etc, giving him a various love of electronic house music.

As his love of the genre grew, he began djing, in bars to start off with, with his first ever club gig coming at the impressive Pacha London for Twisted Disco. Gigs started coming fairly regular after that, playing at numerous bars and clubs around the area and outside.

With his knowledge of the scene becoming increasingly varied, he started listening to more top djs, going to London club nights, seeing what kind of music they were playing, etc. listening to people like Fergie, Steve Angello, Sister bliss, Tania Von Pear, Jon Gurd, Dave Robertson, Rhythm Code, Noir, just to name a few.

As he moved on, he attended the subbass dj academy in London, and enrolled on a dj course, which he found extremely intuitive and also a few month later found him self back there again, learning new production techniques, which helped out tremendously.

The next year, he again got to play at Pacha London, as well as playing at Junk Club, Southampton with the likes of Style of eye, Mr. C, Tim Sheridan, Shane watcha, Jerome Sydenham, amongst others.

As he progresses in his career, 2009 has seen him earn even more gigs, with possible glade festival opportunities on the horizon, and a production schedule that has become very busy with 3 tracks already signed and released to labels, and 3 more waiting to be released, it has been quite a successful time for Kris so far this year.

So all in all, 2009 has been a huge success so far, getting his name out into the industry as much as possible, and his production ability gaining more respect with each production, looks like being a very exciting year ahead.Have a listen to his tracks.

in aswer to anonomous and bastille… ithink pelski was joking bout fidget. he was just pointing out how changeable the scene is – in other words, fidget is no longer fashionable. and pelski doesnt agree with that fadish way of looking at music which is why he wrote ‘apparently’.
