David and Goliath

Last week an email dropped into my inbox notifying me of a new blog run by the demi-god musical behemoth that is Fabric. And, it is, unsurprisingly, a good blog. Rather annoyingly, a very good blog.

This is good news, really. But for the last few year Fabric have been dropping their excellent freebie mp3s into my mailbox every couple of weeks – and I’ve been posting them, quietly and confidently taking all the credit. Now – with their swanky new site, their tip-top interviews (MCDE anyone?) and their bloody hotshot guest bloggers (Soul Clap for starters) – they’ll be posting their own top quality promo with no need for the small fish (Pelski).
No hard feelings, Fabric. I’ll just continue to pilfer everything you post.
(And – seriously – be sure to check their blog, it really is everything we ought to be: http://www.fabriclondon.com//blog)
The first track Fabric sent over is from someone I’ve been watching very closely, and yet know very little about: Slow Hands. What I do know is that the Mancunian is signed to Wolf + Lamb and provided the charmingly quirky Fast Tongue – a track revolving around the slow chug of subs and some gently off-kilter percussion; he also turned in an overlooked highlight on Wolf + Lamb’s Significant Others Too comp, an upbeat remix of No Regular Play’s moody piano number ‘Ladyluck’.
Although the title of the below track ‘Unlimited Whuub’ sounds as though it may resemble the unwholly sonics you’d expect an underaged gorestep DJ to hammer through his parent’s wall, it is thankfully of the smoother, more sensual, housey ilk than the title (actually named after Barry White’s back-up band) initially suggests. He crafts an infectious steel melody, wrapped up in some warm piano chords and plucky guitar strings. A lovely disco-house groover à la Soul Clap:
Slow Hands – Unlimited Whuuub [pelski highly recommends]
